Gist is built to help people explain ideas honestly and clearly. This policy sets the boundaries for using it.

You must not use Gist to

  • Create or spread disinformation, false or misleading claims, or content designed to deceive.
  • Produce misleading advertising or unsubstantiated guarantees.
  • Plagiarise or reproduce third-party copyrighted material without the right to do so.
  • Impersonate a person, brand, organisation or public body, or misrepresent affiliation.
  • Commit academic dishonesty, including generating work to be passed off as a student's own where prohibited.
  • Present AI-generated output as human-authored, certified or authoritative professional advice.
  • Generate content that is unlawful, hateful, harassing, sexually exploitative of minors, or that incites violence.
  • Infringe intellectual property or reference third-party brands, characters or trademarks in a way that implies endorsement.
  • Attempt to breach security, scrape at scale, reverse engineer, or overload the service.

Your responsibilities

  • Verify facts and figures before you publish or rely on any output.
  • Make clear when content is AI-assisted, where honesty or the law requires it.
  • Ensure you have the rights to any notes, data or files you upload.

Not for regulated advice

Do not use Gist as a substitute for licensed legal, financial, medical, tax or engineering advice, or to make high-stakes decisions without professional review. Gist outputs are communication aids only.
